Plans can be changed after you have bought one. The usual reasons are disk space on a hosting account, memory on a bot container, or a VPS that has run out of room.
Asking for it
Open Services, click the service, and use the upgrade option if the plan you want is listed there. If it is not listed, open a ticket from the same page and name the plan you want to move to. Either route reaches us as a ticket attached to the service, so there is nothing to explain twice.
We reply with what the change involves and what it costs for the rest of your billing period, and carry it out once you confirm. Nothing is changed on the service before you have agreed to it.
What happens to your data
- Shared hosting. Moving between hosting plans changes the limits on the account. Files, databases, mailboxes, cron jobs and the cPanel username all stay as they are. There is no migration to plan and no DNS change.
- VPS. More memory, cores or disk is applied to the existing machine. A resize normally needs a reboot, so we agree a time rather than doing it under you, and the disk is not reformatted.
- Bot hosting. Memory, CPU and disk limits on the container are raised. The container itself is not rebuilt, so your files and your settings stay. This is not the same as changing the runtime, which does destroy the container.
When a bigger plan is not the answer
Moving from shared hosting to a VPS or a dedicated server is not an upgrade in this sense. It is a different product, on a different machine, with a different kind of access. The site has to be copied across and the DNS switched, and from then on the operating system is yours to run. That is worth doing when you need root, when you need software that cannot live inside cPanel, or when the site genuinely needs the whole machine. It is not worth doing because one page is slow; tell us what is slow first and we will look at it with you.
Going the other way
Moving down to a smaller plan is the same request, with one caution: the smaller plan has to be able to hold what is already there. Check the disk usage on the service page before asking, and delete what you do not need first.
